The story of MathLab

It began as a notebook for one topology course. It is now a small universe: libraries you read, labs you break things in, games you argue with, a tutor that shows its work, and two worlds you can fly or walk through. Here is what is inside.

Chapter I · The libraries

Seven subject folders

Mathematics runs from logic and linear algebra through analysis, algebra, number theory, topology, measure theory, probability and category theory to Euclid's geometry. Beside it stand six science libraries — physics, chemistry, biology, geography, geology and medical science. Every course is chaptered, every chapter has subsections, and every definition, lemma and theorem carries its own interactive visualisation rather than a decorative picture.

Chapter II · Suomen yleissivistys

The Finnish curriculum, in Finnish

A parallel wing covers peruskoulu 7–9 and the whole lukio programme — MAA1–13, MAB1–8, plus physics, chemistry, biology and geography — written in Finnish, with the same visualisation rule and its own exercises, exam practice and ylioppilastutkinto simulations.

Chapter III · Practice

Exercises, exams and the matikkaeditori

Every course has an exercise bank with AI pre-grading and a teacher's final word. Exams can be generated, cloned, versioned and printed as teacher or student papers. A maths editor is available everywhere, so answers can be written in real notation and exported as PDF.

Chapter IV · Play

Games and sandboxes

Fifteen games per subject, each opening with exactly the theory you need to win — sieve races, determinant duels, epsilon–delta targets, separation-axiom puzzles. The sandbox toolbox holds dozens of instruments: proof builders, GeoGebra boards, distribution galleries, titration and pharmacokinetics labs, a molecule builder and a 3D anatomy lab.

Chapter V · The tutor

An AI that reads your sources

The tutor is grounded in the same course material you are reading and answers in rigorous mathematics, showing its reasoning. Its studio generates figures and short animations from that material, and everything it makes is kept in a personal library you can download from.

Chapter VI · The cockpit

Space exploration mode

Leave the notebook and fly. Every field of mathematics is a planet, each galaxy is a discipline, quiz moons orbit the planets, formula quasars hide in the dark, and a black hole with real time dilation carries you between galaxies. Organ-shaped planets in the medical galaxy can be entered and explored from the inside.

Chapter VII · The open world

Fight with mathematics

A side-scrolling world of twenty-five biomes, one per course, with symbol combat, a derivative weapon, draggable physics objects, puzzle chambers and quests. Build a spaceship at the station and you can fly to other galaxies — or step through a portal into the first-person 3D version of a biome you have completed.

Chapter VIII · Behind the scenes

Teacher and editor consoles

Teachers grade, compose exams and follow every student from one console (⌘/Ctrl + T). Editors and developers get an on-page toolbar and a full editing console (⌘E, ⌘K) where any text, image, section, style or outline can be changed, staged as a draft, versioned, or hidden from students, teachers or everyone (⌘/Ctrl + D for the developer console).
